Great start to junior hurling league

It was an early start on Saturday morning for our junior hurlers when they took on Tara Rocks with a 10am start in Hollymount.

However, the early start did not affect the Shels performance when they overcame the men for Gorey on a final score line of Shelmaliers 2-9 Tara Rocks 1-8. The home team played against the strong wind in the first half and they trailed by a single goal 0-4 to 1-4 at half time, with the Shels scores coming from Willie O Shaughnessy, Emmet O Leary and two frees from Conor Tobin. Against this strong wind the Shelmaliers had fine defensive performances from Noel Mythen, Barry O Connor, Sean Byrne and Denis Kelly.

With the assistance of the wind in the second half the Shelmaliers came strongly into the game and had two early points from Conor Tobin and Willie O Shaughnessy to set the pattern for the half. The game changed on 15 minutes into the half when two goals came in quick succession from Seamie Harding and Conor Tobin. The three further second half points from Conor, Willie and Seamie in the last ten minutes to secure victory for the home team. This was the teams first league match of the season and all looks good for the future with the team have a great mix of young and experience players.
