U21 emphatic win over Bunclody

U21 Football. Shelmaliers had an emphatic win over Bunclody in Bunclody last Sat 2-9 to 0-08 and now progress to the Semi Final expected on weekend 30th Nov/1st Dec.

Shels turned in a great team performance  and amongst those to shine  were Eoghan Nolan, Simon Donohoe and Aidan Cash.


Conditions were good for the game with it being predominantly calm and dry. First blood was drawn by Bunclody who pointed in the opening minute of the game. It was to be another 6 minutes before Shels registered on the scoreboard with two well taken free’s by Craig McCabe. Bunclody levelled matters moments later. Minor Colin Cleary after good work by the team sent a glorious pass to his minor team mate Graham Staples who sent the ball to the back of the net with aplomb to leave the score 1-2 to 0-02. Shels added three more points before the break courtesy of Craig McCabe (0-2) and Eoghan Nolan (01), whilst Bunclody tagged on two. Half time score 1-5 to 0-04.

Despite playing up the hill on the second half Shels were far quicker out of the blocks and it looked like Bunclody had ran out of steam. Shels added 1-3 without reply with the points coming from Graham Staples, Eoghan Nolan and Craig McCabe and the goal after precision passing and hard work from Jack Murphy and Graham Staples who let the ball off to the better placed McCabe who assuredly goaled from close range. Things got worse for Bunclody when they were reduced to 14 men inside the first quarter and Shels seemed to be well on top. However Bunclody rallied and went on a scoring spree hitting 4 unanswered points in a row, 2-8 to 0-08. Shels stopped the rot when the hard working Eoghan Nolan pointing with what proved to be the last score of the day. Final score 2-8 to 0-08. A resounding team effort lads, well done.
