Challenge game for U14

The U14 girls enjoyed a very sporting challenge game, with a win over Thomastown on Saturday morning 2-5 to 1-4

The team got some back-up from a few of last year’s squad who are now over-age.  This was because several players were unavailable due to holidays and sickness, while a special well done goes to Andrea Fielding who stepped up from the Under 12 ranks for her first match at this level and scored a goal!

The team played very well with the aid of the wind in the opening half, and the only down side was that we all got soaked on a very exposed pitch!  Thea Kehoe rattled the net with a good ground stroke in the 14th minute to give us a 1-3 to 0-1 lead, and it was 2-5 to 0-2 by half time after Andrea did likewise seconds before the interval.

We were fighting a rearguard action in the second period as Thomastown put on all the pressure, but our backs came through with flying colours, Anna Whelan and Chloe Mythen were particularly good as our rivals were restricted to just three scores, and it was a happy crew that completed the journey to Thurles fro the All-Ireland Senior semi-finals after winning by 2-5 to 1-4.

Team as follows;  Ailis Neville, Caitlin Carroll, Anna Whelan, Chloe Mythen, Molly Byrne, Larah Campbell, Megan Scallan, Jenny Murphy, Sarah Harding-Kenny (0-1), Lauren Murphy, Shauna Kelly (0-1), Aoife Fielding, Thea Kehoe (1-0), Jessie Harding (0-3, 0-1 free), Andrea Fielding (1-0).  Subs;  Megan Murphy for Harding, Linzi Lanigan for Campbell and Chloe Mahon for Kenny-Harding. Thanks to Shauna Andrea Megan Linzi and Chloe who stepped in to fill the team with players sick and holidays.  Mentors Mick and John.  A great day was had by all!
