Blackwater overcome junior footballers

District neighbours accounted for Shels junior footballers 0-13 to 0-10.

The conditions played a big part in the outcome of this game as the Shelmaliers with the assistance of the breeze in the first half controlled the play in the first 30mins leading by two points at half time, while Blackwater took advantage of the conditions on the resumption and won by 0-13 to 0-10 for the Shelmaliers. Two quick points from Conor Byrne and Brian O Connor in the 5th and 6th minutes put their side ahead before Blackwater replied to level matters after ten minutes. Points were exchanged with Colin Redmond firing over a 50m free and Conor Byrne (2) and Brian O Connor both scored leaving their side leading by 0-6 to 0-4 at half time. The first 10min of the second half was an even contest, however, three quick points for the Shelmaliers from Willie O Shaughnessy, Niall Murphy and Colin Redmond extended their sides lead. Blackwater began to take control of the game as it moved into the last 20min however; both sides were guilty of near misses. With Blackwater dominating in midfield the Shelmaliers failed to score from the 6th to the 27th min with Chris Gordon firing over his sides last score with a well taken point with 3min to go. In that time Blackwater scored 8 unanswered points to take the lead and the match by a score line of 0-13 to 0-10.
