In their third championship game against Duffry Rovers this evening winning 3-14 to 0-3 in Coolree. Well done Ladies!
The victory was achieved at a costly price as wing-forward Hazel O’Leary fractured her fibula and could be out of action for six weeks, adding to our list of casualties at present. Michelle Hearne handpassed a goal just over 60 seconds into Monday’s clash, with Deirdre McMahon adding the second with the best score of the night after a fine move in the tenth minute. It was 2-1 to 0-1 and we went on to lead by 2-6 to 0-2 at half-time. There was never any danger of a Duffry comeback as they were comfortably contained and just added one point in the 41st minute. Kate Kelly goaled at the start of the last quarter and a further seven points were tacked on to leave 20 between the sides at the finish. Team as follows: Sandy Carr, Ciara Donohoe (capt), Leona Tector, Maeve Quill, Fiona Cullen, Aine Lacey, Sharron Daly, Shelly Doyle (0-2), Anne-Marie Kelly (0-1), Hazel O’Leary (0-1), Michelle Murphy (0-1), Niamh Walsh (0-3), Deirdre McMahon (1-0), Michelle Hearne (1-0), Kate Kelly (1-5, 0-3 ’45’s, 0-1 free). Subs; Ciara Neville (0-1) for O’Leary injured, also Mary Cullen, Catherine Doyle, Lisa Quill, Sinead Kelly, Caroline Curran, Roisin Tobin.
The final group game will take place on Thursday 25 July away to Rathnure, and we still have the incentive of trying to secure one of the top two spots and avoiding a quarter-final clash!
