Victory for Senior camogie

Well done to the Senior team who beat St Martins in the first round of the Championship 6-16 to 3-4.

It was a great start to their Championship, early points from Katrina and Kate settled the side against the wind, and they recovered well after the concession of a goal with a further four points from Katrina, Kate (two frees) and Katrina again.

Deirdre was next on the scoresheet with a point before Shelly flicked a delivery from the left wing to the net, but St Martin’s replied with a goal from a close-in free.  Late points from Kate (free) and Katrina steadied the ship again and we led by 1-9 to 2-1 at halftime.

Four minutes into the second half Annmarie goaled, and the pressure was maintained as Katrina rattled the net stretching the lead to 3-10 to 2-3.  While St Martins did grab another goal against the run of play, our girls never relented and produced a very strong last eleven minutes when they added 3-4 without reply.  The goals come from Katrina, Aine, and Michelle who connected expertly in mid-air on a Bridget Curran free.  This was a brilliant display with Bridget driving the team on with a strong showing at centre-back.  Team as follows:  Sandy Carr, Ciara Donohoe (capt), Leona Tector, Maeve Quill, Fiona Cullen, Bridget Curran, Sharron Daly, Kate Kelly (0-8, 6 frees, 1 ’45), Aine Lacey (1-0), Anne Marie Kelly (1-0), Katrina Parrock (2-6), Hazel O’Leary, Shelly Doyle (1-0), Michelle Hearne (1-0), Deirdre McMahon (0-2), Subs:  Mary Cullen, Aine Barron, Caroline Curran, Catherine Doyle, Sinead Kelly, Michelle Murphy, Ciara Neville, Ceara O’Brien, Lisa Quill, Roisin Tobin, Niamh Walsh.  Mentors John Furlong, Alan Aherne, John Kelly, Fionnuala Hearne.
