Shelmalier Ladies traveled to London last weekend to compete in the International Tournament held in the Emerald Grounds, Ruislip and returned home evening after winning the Monica Dee Memorial Cup. Kilmacud Crokes (Dublin), Dunedin Connelly’s of Edinburgh and last years All-Ireland Intermediate Club champions Parnell’s of London were the other participants. Shelmalier defeated Dunedin Connelly’s 5-11 to 1-5 and in the final defeated Parnell’s of London 1-10 to 1-6. The late Monica Dee’s husband Con presented the cup to captain Kate Kelly.

O’Brien, Wayne Duggan, Aidan O’Leary, Pat Quill, Mary O’Leary, Breda Curran and Liz Quill.The travelling party, accompanied by Kilmacud Crokes headed back to Crown Moran Hotel where they watched the Wexford v Dublin game. Gala dinner dance was held in the Hotel for all participating teams. Wexford exiles present at the tournament and function included Pairce O’Leary son of Aidan and Mary O’Leary. Denis O’Brien and James Byrne (Blackwater) Former County player G. Butler (Clongeen). A great weekend was had, hopefully this time next year we will be able to retain the title!
