Our junior hurlers put in a strong performance to overcome Faythe Harriers 1-14 to 1-4.
Shels junior team met Faythe Harriers in the league Fri eve last. Shels suffered a setback when the visitors goaled in the opening couple of minutes, but immediately set about closing the gap. Points from Shane Birney 3 (2F), John Redmond (F) and a point from the Mick Kelly after good run by Johnny Campbell did just that with the Harriers getting a late point before the break to leave the half time score -05 to 1-1 in favour of Shels.
Harriers drew first blood with a point on the re-start with Shane Birney pointing a free in quick response. Net minder Willie Redmond had to be quick off the mark to pull off a great save moments later. However after that early attack from Faythe Harriers it was Shels all the way to the finish. Points from Noel Mythen (2), Denis Kelly, Johnny Campbell, Shane Griffith, Willie O’Shaughnessy and John Redmond (F) together with a blistering second half from Jonathan Breslin and goalie Willie Redmond whilst the visitors added a point to their tally meant the final score was Shels 0-14, Harriers 1-4. Our defence was very strong on the day with full back Darren Malone giving another confident performance ably aided by Emmet O’Leary and Stephen Whelan. Ciaran Walsh was commanding in the middle of the field also.
