Shels U16s hurlers 4-12, Blackwater 2-8 a good result after last night.
The Shels U16 hurlers got their championship campaign off to a winning start last night at home to local rivals Blackwater. The Shels started the stronger with Enda Cloake knocking over a couple of early points. Nathan Murphy then goaled for the home side before Blackwater registered their first score, a point from a free. Points from Liam Rockett and Jody Donohoe stretched the lead for the Shels boys before a quick goal and point from the visitors reduced the margin to two points. A strong finish to the half in with Nathan Murphy goaled followed by points from Enda Cloake, Conor Hearne and Jody Donohoe left the half time score Shels 2.07 Blackwater 1.02.
Blackwater with the aid of the breeze started the second half on the front foot with three points without reply. Nathan Murphy and Stephen Rossiter knocked over points for the home team before Blackwater hit a goal leaving only four points between the teams. Both sides swapped points before a storming finish from the Over The Water men, in which they scored 2.02. the goals coming from Dan Campbell and Liam Rockett. The Shels won on a scoreline of Shels 4-12 Blackwater 2-08.
