U16 A Leinster Champs

Congratulations to the U16 County team who captured the Leinster A Championship crown for the first time since 2002 with a thrilling 3-8 to 2-10 win over Offaly on Sunday last.

Congratulations to Niamh Walsh who played her heart out at centre back, and she had a key role to play in Wexford’s match-winning goal with four minutes left as it came directly from a free which she lofted into the goalmouth.  Niamh was joined by Shauna Kelly who was a sub, Shauna still has another year in this grade so her time will come.

The last Leinster medals to come to the club in this grade were won by Anne-Marie Kelly and Diane Redmond in 2000.  Shauna is the third member of the Kelly family to collect a provincial Under 16 title, as did her Aunts, Kate and Anne-Marie, we are now privileged to have 16 Leinster medal winners in total at this grade.

The B team also had a strong club involvement as Linzi Lanigan played at left corner-back on the Wexford team who lost the Leinster B championship final to Dublin B by 1-7 to 1-1.  Linzi and her defensive colleagues played very well.
