Our junior hurlers had a comprehensive victory over Taghmon/Camross Tues eve last.
Shels started the brightest and has several good attacks on the Taghmon goal in the opening couple of minutes. Shels lost corner forward Shane Griffith in the 3rd min through injury. There was little between the sides after 20 mins with them both on -06 each. Shels scores courtesy of Sean Byrne (3), Willie O’Shaughnessy (2) and the hard working midfielder Cathal Gaule. Shels then managed to put daylight between the sides when Cathal Gaule and Denis Kelly both pointed before Denis Kelly goaled after great work by the team to put him through. Half time score 1-8 to 0-06.
As soon as the ball was thrown in for the second half the Shelmaliers took control of the game with Kelly brothers Denis and Mick , Darren Malone, Stephen Whelan and Eoin O Leary in defence stopping all of the Taghmon’s attacks. Ciaran Walsh and Cathal Gaule controlled mid field together with some quick forward play from Paraic Coone, Chris Gordon, the Byrne brother Sean and Conor and Willie O Shaughnessy the Shels soon registered their first score of the half with Paraic Coone tapping into the net from close range. Further points from Cathal Gaule, Conor Byrne and Sean Byrne (2) extended their teams lead and the home team finished strongly with further two goals from Conor Byrne to leave a final score of Shelmaliers 4-12 Taghmon 0-11. Subs for the Shels were Chris McGrath, Conor Byrne, John Redmond, Seamie Harding, Blain Parnell. Final score 4-12 to 0-11.
