Seniors take 2nd Victory in League

Shels met Duffry Rovers in the  All County Senior football league Sat 2nd March away in Coolree. Shels were in control from the start. A fine point from Conor Byrne followed swiftly by a superb goal from Stephen Banville. Duffry were trying hard and throwing everything at Shels but the backs were staunch and held tight. Benny Barron made a crucial interception when it looked like Duffry were sure of a goal. Brother Tommy Barron added a brace of points with Aidan Murphy pointing after a lovely pass from Conor Byrne. Shels were leading 1-4 to -01 with 15 mins gone. Duffry clawed 2 points back before the on form Tommy Barron and Neal Rossiter negated their efforts with 2 more for Shels. Keeper Paudie McMahon had an excellent save in the closing minutes of the first half with Darren (Jack) Malone clearing the ball to safety.  Cathal Gaule, Darren Malone & Andre O’Brien closed down Duffry attack time after time. Neal Rossiter and Stephen Banville tagged on two more points to leave the half time score 1-08 to -03. Duffry were the more determined on the resumption and quickly pointed twice before Stephen Banville took one back after 5 minutes. Duffry working hard added another brace before Aidan Murphy converted a free. After 15 mins score was 1-10 to 0-06 in favour of Shels. Shels were getting back on top of the game exhibiting the lovely free flowing game they had in the first half and points from Stephen Banville and Tommy Barron with a superb goal from Feargal Hynes left the score at 2-13 to 1-07 with 23 minutes gone. Duffry still fighting hard were rewarded with a goal but Shels never lost the flow of the game and added further points from Banville and Hynes before Chris Gordon supplied Shels 3rd major of the day after great work from Brian Doyle and Liam Donnelly seen Stephen Banville with a lovely pass to the in rushing Gordon, who made no mistake, blasting to the back of the net. Final score 3-14 to 1-10.
