After months of hard work and speculation the new Wexford GAA Games Development Action Plan has been published.
This is the conclusion of a year long of a root and branch review by Leinster Council and a Wexford Co Board committee under County Vice Chairman Michéal Martin, of the entire coaching and games development programme in Wexford.
The framework set out is ambitious and aims nothing less than putting Wexford GAA back at the top table in hurling and football at all levels. The plan includes the establishment of District Talent Academies in both football and hurling. This will result in the production of more elite, high quality players, rising from 30 per year to 120 in both codes.
A lot of hard work and commitment lies ahead but Wexford will, following these reforms, have structures to rival the best and we will strive to become the ones setting the bar. Now is the time for us all to put our shoulders to the wheel and to make Wexford, the ‘Model County’ once again.
