Shelmaliers were well represented by Eoghan Nolan who was captain and lined out at full back. Simon Donohoe played centre back, Graham Staples wing back and Kevin O’Connor at corner forward. Kevin scored 1- 09 in total (-05 frees) and he was St. Peter’s only scorer in the second half scoring 1- 04. The wind played a big part in the match, Peters had first half advantage scoring 8 points to St. Mel’s 1- 02. In the second half ST Mel’s got 2 quick goals to put real pressure on St. Peters. We pulled back the score with Kevin O’Connor’s frees and after exchanging more points we went ahead only for Mel’s to equalise in injury time. With the wind again in the first half of extra time Peters scored 2 points but Mel’s failed to score, in the second half Mel’s scored 1 point but Peters had the last say with a fantastic goal by Conor Devereux (Crossabeg /Ballymurn). Conor has Shels connections, his father Michael was born in Castlebridge. All the boys played a big part in this victory. Stephen Carr, Castlebridge, is also on the panel. They now play ST. Pat’s of Navan in the quarter final in 2 weeks’ time on 9th of Feb.
