Historic All Irl Win With Shels Connection

pol

History was made on Sunday last when Parnell’s of London, Ladies Football Team became the first English team to win an All Ireland club title when they defeated Cahir of Tipperary in the Intermediate championship final, 2:14 to 1:2.

The Shelmalier connection is that Paraic O Leary of Ballyfarnogue Screen was Trainer and Selector to the victorious team. He was also Trainer to the London Ladies county Team that took part in the All Ireland Intermediate Championship this year. Paraic, who was the regular Wing Back on the Neasden Gaels Senior Men’s team in the London Senior Football championship this year as they reached the Quarter Final stage, has been a prominent member of our club for the last good number of years. This achievement is really satisfying for all concerned with the Parnell’s team considering the huge sacrifices that the team has made to get to this stage. Many members have to make long journeys to get to training and matches at their home in Nortwich Park in London. Also they travelled over to Ireland for Semi Final, Semi Final Replay and the final last Sunday, financing a lot of this out of their own pocket. So Congratulations to all concerned.
