However, a group of eight Juniors stepped into the breach and did extremely well to reach the Shield final after four wins on the trot. Unfortunately, the sole defeat of the day came in that decider, losing to Eire Og-Corra Choill of Kildare 1-4 to 1-1.
Earlier in the day we had beaten the same team twice (by 2-1 to 0-1 and 5-4 to 1-5), this was a little frustrating for the team and their Mentors Alan Aherne, John Furlong, Fionnuala Hearne and John Kelly. Kilmacow of Kilkenny were also defeated on the double (1-2 to 0-1 and 4-3 to 1-0), with the three teams playing each other twice because Ratoath of Meath and Cullion of Westmeath pulled out at the last minute.
It was still a good day’s camogie and the eight players who travelled didn’t come home empty-handed as they received runners-up trophies. Great credit is due to them for representing the club so well. Well done girls!
The panel (with combined scoring totals) was: Katie Lacey, Sinéad Kelly, Maeve Doyle, Anne-Marie Kelly (3-3), Eadaoin Fitzgerald (3-0), Sarah Lacey (4-2), Therese Sheil (capt., 3-6), Kirsty Hynds.
