The u 12’s opened their hurling league campaign on Monday evening with a deserved win over a battling Buffer’s Alley side in Hollymount
This was a tough contest where every ball was fiercely contested but the superior skill of the Shels boys won out in the end on a final scoreline of 0-9 to 1-2.
Jack Waters played his first league game between the posts and he gave a commanding display dealing with everything that came his way while his distance from puck-outs set up many attacks. Thomas O’Connor, Davy Harte, Ryan Hanrahan and Hugh Peter Manly formed a very tight defence in the first half while Ryan also contributed from frees. Mark Doyle, when introduced to the backs showed us how well he can do especially some classy ground hurling. Ross Banville and Aaron Doyle were outstanding in mid-field with Ross scoring 0-5 points in total while Aaron also did very well when moved to defence in the second half. Up front Mossy Scallan, Kyle Ferguson, and Darragh Howlin played well with the stylish Tom Keaveny continuing to improve with every game. There were also solid contributions from Ciaran O’Neill, Darragh Malone and Aaron Jackman who was unlucky not to find the net towards the end. The last quarter was especially pleasing for the mentors because the boys showed us how tough they can be and that when they operate as a team they can face any challenge and overcome it. They now face Liam Mellows next week before switching to football the following week. All boys are encouraged to attend every training session even though many of them are also involved with the school Rackard League team who won the district final on Thursday. When that competition is over we hope to settle on training days throughout the summer. Also any other boys who are underage are welcome to join us at any stage – just come along.
