Our senior hurlers held on for victory in Pairc Charman today with 1-15 to 1-14 win over Faythe Harriers.
Shels met Faythe Harriers in Pairc Charman, in the league, sat afternoon in a blaze of glorious sunshine. Shels had a brisk wind advantage for first half. Harriers were first off the mark but Joe Kelly hit a brace of points in quick reply. Chris McGrath after good work put the on form Conor Byrne through and the same player added a second point moments later. Cathal Gaule and Brian Doyle combined to send a great pass up to the waiting Ciaran O’Shaughnessy who pointed to put Shels ahead 05- to 0-2. Harriers working hard then hit 2 points before Joe Kelly pointed from a sideline cut. Connor Byrne converted two frees and Brian Doyle hit a great point from a distance out to leave the half time score -09 to -06 in favour of Shels.
On the resumption Joe Kelly was fouled in the penalty area and Conor Byrne duly converted. Harriers got a point but then it was Shels all the way for the next 20 minutes as they sailed into 1-14 to -08 lead. However Harriers were far from done and the pointed again before they were awarded a penalty. After scoring this it seemed to drive them on and they hit -05 in the final minutes whilst Shels were glad of a Ciaran O’Shaughnessy point to leave them victors by the smallest of margins. 1-15 to 1-14.
