Minor Footballers draw with Starlights

The Shelmalier minor footballer had a hard worked 0-12 to 1-9 draw with Starlights in the second round of the championship on Wednesday evening last in Bellefield.

The Shelmaliers were first on the scoreboard when Adam Whitmore fired over for the visitors, however, Starlights struck back in the 5th minute with a goal and a point in quick succession. From that point to the 23rd minute the Starlights were held scoreless with the Shelmaliers adding 9 extra points from Neal Rossiter (3), Kevin O Connor (2), Adam Whitmore (2), Stephen McGuire (2). During this period the Shelmaliers showed great flowing football with great interplay and accurate shooting from the forwards. There was also very good play from the back line where Kevin Byrne, Simon Donohoe and Eoghan Fitzgerald were very prominent. The half time score was 0-10 to 1-3.
Playing with the assistance of the wind in the second half the home team came out very strong and score five point without reply which saw them take the lead for the first time on the match as it moved into to final quarter. The determination of the Shels side was very evident in the last five minutes as Neal Rossiter converted a late free to level the score at 0-12 to 1-9.
