Juniors fight hard with neighbours

Our Junior footballers had a great tustle with near nighbours Crossabeg/Ballymurn in Hollymount sun 20th May.

Shels fielding several players from the preceding senior game were unlucky to concede 1-1 inside the first 3 minutes. However Conor Byrne and Brian Murphy took 2 points back very quickly. Crossabeg were methodical in their finishing and were surging ahead but points from Conor Byrne, James Murphy and S Griffith meant we went to the break only a goal down. As we had a good run to the end of the half, hopes were high for the restart, but this did not work as the visitors set about accumulating 7 points without reply. Our team, tired after the majority were heading into their 120 minute of play inside a couple of hours seemed to have no answer. Gary Murphy was introduced and had an immediate positive affect and put Chris Gordon through for Shels first score of the new half 15 mins in. Conor Byrne and Chris Gordon (2) and Niall Stafford all pointed without reply before good team play put Brian (turf) Murphy through for goal. Shels were on top and getting the bit between the teeth but it was too little too late and they had to concede defeat. Final score 2-11 to 2-14.

Best on the day were Chris Gordon, Kevin O’Leary Brian O’Connor and David Kehoe.
