Junior B Hurlers V Ballymurn

The Shelmalier Junior B hurlers played their first match of the championship on Tuesday evening last in Hollymount against near neighbours Crossabeg/Ballymurn.

In a very entertaining and challenging match the visitors came away with a 2-11 to 0-9 victory. A feature of the match was the free taking of young Sean Byrne who finished with a total of 8 points with 7 coming from free’s and one from play.  The match moved from end to end in the first 10 minutes with James Murphy, Sean Byrne, Padraig Coone, Eoin O Leary, John Breslin, and Blain Parnell prominent during this period of play.  Ballymurn took an early lead but as the game moved into the second quarter the Shels showed great determination with James Shiggins, Dessie Kehoe and Austin Hearne trying their best to push their team into a lead. The half time score was Ballymurn 1-6 and Shelmaliers 0-3.
The second half Ballymurn with more training under their belt showed their greater fitness when scoring three points without reply. The Shels did have a great comeback when cutting down the score to a bare three points; however, a late goal from Ballymurn sealed victory for the visitors.
