Shels & Duffry Rover played out an exciting game with both sides level with 4 minutes to go.
Shelmaliers met Duffry rovers in the 2nd round of the football league in Hollymount Good Friday evening at 7 PM. Shels missing 8 regular starters were on the defence from the start as Duffry put 3 points on the scoreboard without reply, from Eamon Doyle and Johnny Flynn O’Connor. Shels started to get in the game then mainly through accurate free taking from Derek Walsh, Aidan Murphy and Colin Redmond, and they went into the break a point ahead, 0-7 to 0-6. The second half was less than a minute old when disaster struck for Shels, a freak bounce of the ball off one of the Shels defenders feet meant the ball ended up in the back of Shels net. To their credit this only seemed to spur Shels on and they drew level in the next 8 minutes. Shels were a point adrift when they were awarded a penalty which the confident Craig McCabe converted with style. Another Colin Redmond free left Shels 3 points ahead with 4 minutes left on the clock. However Duffry were far from done and hit 2-2 in the last four minutes the goals from Fergal Kenny & Aidan Byrne, whilst Shels only score a solitary Derek Walsh free to leave final score 1-12 to 3-10.
