Shels were first out of the blocks with a Benny Barron point. The teams traded points then with brothers Eoin (0-2) and Brian Doyle (0-2) combining very well. John Redmond converted a free. Shels started to pull away towards the end of the half, with good points from Stephen Banville, Brian Tobin and Eoin Doyle. Feargal Hynes did well to hook a late St. Martins shot on goal leaving goalie Brian Turf Murphy who was on superb form, having made several saves, an easier task to deal with. Half time score 0-09 to 0-04. In the second half Shels piled on the pressure and stretched the lead, with Conor Byrne, Stephen Banville and Brian Doyle all pointing. St. Martins in the form of Diarmuid Lyng and Alan Kehoe were working hard to stay in touch. The on fire Clive Lawler together with Conor Walsh and Conor Byrne led the defence and gave no quarter. Shels goal came after Alan Griffith picked up a loose ball and sent a long range shot to the waiting Joe Kelly who had just been introduced and Shels lead was 1-14 to 0-07 at this stage.
