Heartbreakingly had we only lost by one point we would have topped the group and been safe. Now we face Oylgate next Sat in one final chance to retain our senior status.

Askamore were first on the scoreboard, but Shels hit -03 in quick succession, 2 free’s from Joe Kelly and a point from Alan Griffith. Askamore were working hard,  picked off 2 points in quick succession. Ciaran O’Shaughnessy replied with 2 points before Askamore added a goal and three points. Shels managed to get back in touch when Chris McGrath goaled and Joe Kelly pointed just before the break. Aidan Murphy made a crucial block just on half time. 1-6 each. Stephen Banville pointed early in 2nd half after a superb pass from Chris McGrath, but Askamore pulled a point ahead with 2 well taken points. Joe Kelly replied with 3 points, 2 F, after good work by Aidan Cash. Disaster for Shels then with 7 mins to go, when Askamore got their second major of the day and tagged on two more points to move 3pts ahead. A late point from Chris McGrath left final score 1-11 to 2-10. A loss of two points which means we meet Oylgate now for a final chance to say in the senior ranks.
