U14 Hurlers beaten in County Final

Our U14 hurlers were defeated in the County Final last Monday evening in Wexford Park against Faythe Harriers

A tense opening to the match from both teams was emphasized on the scoreboard after 10 mins where neither team had registered a score. The Harriers took the lead after 12 mins with a point from a free. A goal mouth scramble in the Shels square after 15 mins ended with a goal for the Harriers before Shels first score of the match, a pointed free from Jody Donohoe. Two further points from the Harriers boys was quickly followed by a point from Dan Campbell. Disaster then struck just before half time when another goa lmouth scramble resulted in a very soft goal for the town team. HT score Harriers 2.03 Shels 0.02. The first two scores of the second half went to the over the water boys, a point from play by Jody Donohoe and a goal from substitute Kyle Roche who was only on the pitch a minute or so. A Harriers point followed by a pointed free by Conor Hearne left only 3 points between the teams with 10 mins left. A bad injury to Jody Donohoe didn’t help the Shels cause as they were really coming into the game when he had to go off. The final two points of the game went to the Harriers who won on a scoreline of 2.06 to 1.04. Best wishes to Jody for a speedy recovery and also to Paul McCleane in goal who broke a bone in his hand early in the second half but played on bravely till the end of the game.
