The Shelmalier Minor Football team qualified for their 3rd County Premier Final in a row on Monday night last as they beat a gallant Gorey team in a wind swept and rainy Patrick’s Park. Our boys winning out on a score line of 2:9 to 1:6. On a night when good football was nearly impossible, the Shels men made light of the conditions to put on an expert display of power and pace in the first half when they had the advantage of the elements. At the end of the first 30 minutes the Shels led 2:6 to no score. The goals coming from Kevin O Connor and Craig Mc Cabe. However it was in the second half that this team really showed what it was made of with a brilliant ‘backs to the wall’ performance to keep the Gorey men at bay and then put 3 points themselves on the board before the end. They now qualify for their third final in a row where they will face either Starlights or Fethard. Best on the night, where every single player showed their real mettle, were Jack Murphy, Adam Whitmore, Eoin Nolan, James Cash and Eoghan Fitzgerald. Well done to all involved:
Our minor footballers beat Naomh Eanna 2-9 to 1-5 last night under lights in Patricks Park and will meet with Fethard or Starlights in Co. Final.
