Shels held their annual Hurling Blitz for U6 & U8 boys last Sat morning in Hollymount. See more pics in hurling gallery.
Despite the weather not been the best it was still a big success with over 150 boys in total taking part. The three visiting teams were St Martins, Blackwater and Crossabeg/Ballymurn. The team photo was the first thing on the agenda, and with big smiles for the camera they all looked proud as punch wearing the black and amber. The Shels boys turned up in big numbers and were able to field two teams of 6 year olds, one team of 7 year olds and one team of 8 year olds. Each group played 3 matches and all the skills they learned throughout the year were used. Great strength and determination was on show as all the boys played through the rain to finish the blitz. Each player was presented with a medal for their efforts by Seamus O Leary in the complex afterwards. Refreshments for everybody was then served in the complex and Dave Guiney, Co. games development manager spoke a few words of wisdom to all the boys. A special word of thanks to Dave, and to Sheila Redmond for taking the photographs. Finally a sincere thanks to everybody who helped on the day in so many ways to make this not just a good day but a great one.
