3rd Team go down to Kilmore 1st

Shels third string were in action in Holly Mount Friday evening when they took on Kilmore ‘s first team in the final round of the qualifying stages.

In the first half the shels were playing against a very strong breeze and found the opposition hard to handle where the superior fittness level of the opposition was proving the ultimate difference with the Shels trailing by 2-7 to 1-2 at the interval. Showing plenty of grit & no little skill which has become a trade mark of this team the Shels battled their hearts out in the second half to make a good game of it but in essence Kilmore had too much in reserve and powered on to win by 9 points on a night when John Breslin, Graham Lawlor & P O Leary played well & also veterans Colm Tynan & Vinny Parker who have a combined age of 85 turned in vintage performances . Shels 5-4 Kilmore 5-13. The Shels failed to qualify for the semi finals as a result of Crossabeg giving the harriers the points on the night when a victory by  table toppers Crossabeg would have put the shels through.
