Tara Rocks too strong

Our second string were beaten 1-15 to 7 pts by Tara Rocks in the league Sunday evening.

Having had a successful win against the Volunteers last week the Shels second team were hoping to continue their winning ways when the met Tara Rocks in Hollymount on Sunday (19th June). The Shels started brightly and were dominant in most areas of the pitch for the first half. In that half Niall Stafford and David Kehoe won lots of possession around midfield, Niall being the first to score for the Shels. Other scorers in that half were Brian Kirwan three points and Brian Tobin a point. Unfortunately the Shels wides for the half, standing at eight to Tara Rocks two, was far too high and the half finished with Tara Rocks leading by one point despite having far less play.

In the second half it seemed as if the Shels ran out of steam and for most of the half it was Tara Rocks who kicked the best football. Unlike the Shels in the first half they availed of most of their scoring chances and scored 1-9 to the Shels 0-2, the Shels scores coming from Niall Stafford and Brian Kirwan. The final score being Tara Rocks 1-15 Shels 0-7. Tara Rocks may well have had another goal but for a great save by Paddy Murphy. While the Shels second team have work to do to be ready for the second round of the championship it was great to see a number of players who were not around for various reasons back in action in Hollymount.
