Footballers beat holders

The Shels Senior Footballers continued their good form of late with an impressive 7 point victory over County Champions, Castletown, in the league.

Castletown did most of the attacking in the first ten minutes with two points (one free) and two wides. Liam Donnelly then did excellent work and scored a good goal. This lifted the Shels who played with great purpose and determination for the rest of the half. While Castletown scored two more points from frees before half time, Shels scored 1-1 to leave the half-time score at 2-1 to 0-4.
The second half was well contested  throughout but the Shels eye for goal was the main difference – Shels scored 2-4 while Castletown scored 0-6 (0-1 free). At the same time, Paudie McMahon pulled off a great save, his second of the day, which helped prevent any Castletown revival. The Shels defended bravely with some great displays by Paudie, James Gordon, Liam Donnelly and Derek Walsh.
The Shels play St Annes in the last game of the league on Monday 27th June.
