Both sides found it difficult to cope with the strong cross-field wind and the scores were hard to come by. Vols gradually moved into a 3 point lead before Conor Walsh scored a great point with a booming effort from 45 yards. After this the Vols were awarded a questionable penalty which Tadie Redmond scored. This put the Vols in a great position as scores were proving very difficult to get. Shels wasted 3 good scoring chances, one which should have been a goal, and this left the half time score at 1-3 to 0-1.
In the second half the Vols became more dominant. Shels defended well through Cathal Gaule, AJ Lehane, Niall Kelly, P O’Leary and Graham Lawler in goal. While the Shels wasted a lot of scoring opportunities, Shane Griffith was unlucky not to score a goal when he was put through after some good work by Chris Gordon. In the end the Vols ran out easy winners but Shels would have to rue so many missed opportunities.
