The Shels second football team lost narrowly on a scoreline of 3-7 to 3-5 to Cloughbawn yesterday evening (Monday 30th May). The match which was played in Cloughbawn was an exciting game that was end to end for the full hour. While the Shels had most of the play for the first 15 mins this was not reflected on the scoreboard and it was the home team that did most of the scoring. The Shels were however awarded a penalty and Brian Kirwan made no mistake to leave the half time score at Shels 2-2 and Cloughbawn 3-2. Facing the hill in the second half the Shels players worked hard to stay in touch and towards the end of the game were just two points behind. Unfortunately they were unable to get any closer than this and Clougbawn maintained the two point advantage to the end of the game. Scorers for the Shels were Brian Kirwan (2-3, 2-0 Pen, 0-2 F), Noel Mythen (1-0), Clive Lawlor (0-1) and Sean Walsh (0-1). The match Referee was John O Rourke.
Our second football team short several regulars due to exams etc, went down by 2 points to Cloughbawn in Cloughbawn last night.
