Senior Team play Ballyboden St, Endas in Leinster Semi Final

Leinster senior club football returns to Hollymount after a gap of seven years when the Shelmalier ladies take on the Dublin champions Ballyboden St Endas in the Leinster semi final on Sunday next at 3pm.

The Shels girls had a fine 2-10 to 1-9 away victory over the Meath champions St Ultans who included five players from the Meath senior team in the previous round.  The Boden girls defeated Kildare champions Ballyna by 4-14 to 2-4 in their previous round.

There has been many memorable clashes between these sides in the past and Sundays encounter should produce a game of high quality football. Ballyboden were All Ireland champions in 2004 and 2005 and are a formidable outfit. They had four players Rachel Ruddy, Aishling Farrelly, Gemma Fay and Natalie Hyland on the Dublin panel that recently won the All Ireland senior final and have further accomplished players in TG4 analyst Fiona Corcoran, Gráinne O’Malley, Caroline Conway all of whom have intercounty experience.

The Shels girls contain several members of the team that won the All Ireland championship in 1999 such as captain of that team Laura Corrigan, Leona Tector, Kate and Mag Kelly, Fiona Cullen, Maeve Quill and Tara Moloney. They have players with plenty of experience in Shelly Doyle, Nikki Scallan, Deirde Fox, Bridget Curran and Deirdre McMahon as well as newcomers in Anne Marie Kelly, Clara Donnelly and Aoife Tormey to put it up to the Dublin champions. The loss of Michelle Hearne who played such an influential part in them regaining the county title will be severely felt but they should be able to welcome back Katriona Parrock who was injured for the last game.

It will be vital for the Shels girls to cope with the expected blistering start by the Dublin champions and should they curb this start, it should be a great semi Final.

The winners will play Timahoe in the Leinster Final on Saturday the 23rd of October.
