Minors survive late challenge in Co. Semi final

Shelmalier Minor Football team made it a Double – Double on Sunday last when they reached the County Final by beating Starlights 1:14 to 1:12 in a really exciting and tense encounter.

They have now reached both the Hurling and Football finals for the second year in a row and are determined to erase the disappointment of losing both finals last year. This match was won with a brilliant display of football in the first half which gave them a healthy half time lead of 1:8 to 3pts. The goal was made by Kevin O Connor and expertly finished by our Captain Brian Murphy. However no Semi-Final is ever won easy and this was no different as the Enniscorthy men fought back in the second half to leave just one point between the teams with a minute to go. But the real heart of this team was evident then when with their backs against the wall they summoned the strength and desire to succeed by getting the last score a great Craig Mc Cabe free from nearly Fourty yards to secure victory. They now face Ballinastraw Gaels (Kilanerin/Tara Rocks combination) in the county final this Sunday 3rd October at 1:45 as a curtain raiser to the Wexford Senior football final in Wexford Park. All involved would really appreciate your support on the day.
