Seniors put in good performance

Our senior hurling team still short many regulars put in a spirited performance against Oulart/The Ballagh Sunday last.

Indeed if not for a soft goal we could have been ahead at the break. Oulart put 2 points on the scoreboard before Tommy Barron steadied the team with a fine point. Joe Kelly converted a free and Conor Walsh also pointed in the next passage of play. Then unfortunately for Shels a speculative shot from Oulart found the back of the net. Stephen Banville, Joe Kelly and Conor Byrne (3F) all pointed to leave the half time score 1-8 to 0-8 in favour of Oulart. In the second half Oulart introduced Rory Jacob and he did a lot of damage from the Shels point of view, taking a minor and a major within minutes of coming on. Shels to their credit kept the heads up and tried hard but there was only going to be one winner after three more majors were scored by Oulart. Joe Kelly (1) and Conor Byrne (6,5F) and captain Tommy Barron (1) being the only scorers in the second half. To be fair to the Shels, many felt the final score wasn’t a true reflection of the efort Shels put in, 5-17 to 0-16. We now face the relegation play off and the draw for that is in the next day or so. In a surprise result, Askamore beat St. Annes and they too will now be in the relegation play offs.
