The Shelmalier junior footballers took on Cloughbawn in the junior B championship in St Patrick’s Park on Saturday last going down by 3-12 to 1-9 after a great fight back in the second half against Cloughbawn’s first football team. The Shels were show to get into the game and trailed 3-7 to 0-4 at half time having missed a penalty after 15 minutes of the half. However, it was a completely different performance by the black and amber in the second half with Joe Kelly and Brian Tobin getting the team off to a great start with early points. Vinny Parker pointed in the 15th minute before sub Kevin O Leary scored a great goal. The Shels continued to dominate with Brian O Shaughnessy, Niall Kelly, Denis Kelly, Vinny Parker and Graham Lawlor outstanding in defence; however, our forwards were guilty of some poor wides and some outstanding play by the Cloughbawn goalie. Conor Byrne, Chris Gordon, James Murphy and Marc Tobin showed some fine touches as the game went on and Conor Byrne converted a fine 45 in the 20th minute.
