Minors overcome Owenduff Gaels

cmcThe Shelmaliers Minor Football team had another win last night in Adamastown when they defeated the combination team of Owen Duff on a scoreline of 3.9 to 1.12.

A very difficult cross field breeze made life tricky for both teams but despite this both sets of players coped remarkable well to serve up a fine game of attacking football. Powered on by a very strong mid field duo of Shane O Gorman and Matthew Coady the home team started brightly and were ahead until a brilliant goal finish by Jack Murphy and some very accurate free taking from Craig Mc Cabe put the Shels in front at half time by 1.6 to 1.5. The home team again started the new half brightly and went a point up before two great Shels goals by Kean Lambe and Craig Mc Cabe, put some day light between the teams. The lead stayed at 7 points with ten minutes to go. However the Owen Duff team finished the game strongest and had the lead down to just three points when a great save from Shane Birney from a Conor Hickey shot earned his team the victory. On the night the Shels had great performances from Neil Rossiter, AJ Lehane and Eoin Fitzgerald in defence Craig Mc Cabe in Midfield and Cian Lambe, Jack Murphy and captain Brian Murphy in attack:
