Duffry just edge Shels Seniors

For the third year in a row Shels and Duffry met in the Championship.

Shels won in 2008, Duffry won in 2009 and now unfortunately Duffry have triumphed once again. In fact, Duffry were full value for their win playing with more determination and fire throughout. Sloppy play in the backs allowed James Codd in for an early Duffry goal. Shels replied with points from Terry Gainfort and Stephen Banville but Eamonn Doyle kept Duffry ahead with a good point. James Gordon (two), Alan Griffith, Terry and Stephen scored points but they never managed to take the lead in this first half, despite playing with the breeze. Half time score was 1-5 to 0-7.

In the second half, Shels failed to break the Duffry down. In fact at one stage they were 4 points behind. Shels missed frees and kicked balls into the goalies hands and could not manage to catch the Duffry. James and Terry (2) scored points and Terry scored a free to bring Shels within one point. But that’s as good as it got and Duffry pushed forward to score one final point and hold out for a two point win. Final score 1-10 to 0-11.
