Willie O Leary Cup.

The Willie O Leary hurling tournament was held in Hollymount last Sunday morning.

A total of 42 boys from 4th, 5th and 6th classes in the local schools were divided into six
teams led by team captains Aaron O Neill, Joe Redmond, Enda Cloake, Dylan Potter,
Shane Neville and Conor Hearne. The teams were divided into two groups and after
some very entertaining hurling we were left with Joe Redmonds team against Dylan
Potters team in one semi final and Shane Nevilles team against Enda Cloake’s team in
the other. Two closely fought encounters followed with only one score dividing both
semi finals. Joe’s and Enda’s teams made it through to the final where Joe’s team
prevailed on a scoreline of 3 05 to 3.03. The winners team consisted of Joe Redmond,
Liam Mahon, Stephen Rossiter, Niall Hearne, Stuart Fanning, Dan Campbell and Cathal
Hillis. Paul McCleane stepped in for Joe Redmond in the second half of the final as Joe
had the misfortune of fracturing his thumb. Everybody within the club would like to wish
Joe a speedy recovery and hope he is back helping out his under 14 colleagues as soon as
possible. All the parents and kids headed down to the complex where refreshments were
served and Shels man and Wexford panelist Eoin Doyle presented the Willie O Leary Cup
and medals to the victorious team.
