Senior Football – league

The final league game was played on Saturday afternoon last in Horeswood.

Although both teams were missing a lot of players due to exams, holidays, injuries and work commitments – Shels settled quickly and controlled the game right up to half time. The main scorers for the Shels up to half time were Terry Gainfort, Brian Kirwan, Colin Redmond and Darren Malone to leave the half time score at 1-13 to 0-4.
In the second half Horeswood improved their game with a goal from a penalty and 0-2 from play. However, it was all Shels after that with further scores from Terry, Colin, Ibar Murphy, Brian Doyle, Brian Kirwan, Mark Tobin, Paddy Murphy and James Shiggins. Horeswood scored a point just before the end but this gave a final score of 3-21 to 1-7.
With 5 wins out of 5 in the league, the Senior Footballers have now qualified for the league semi-final against Kilanerin or Castletown due to be played in early July and the 2nd round of Championship is due 18th or 26th July.
Next week the Senior Footballers play in the Seamus Keevans tournament against Bannow-Ballymitty in Gusserane with the day and time still to be arranged.
