Keevans Cup Final

Shels met a strong Gusserane team in the final of the Keevans Cup played in Gusserane on Sunday at 4.30pm.

Although Shels started with a very strong wind and pulled ahead through points by Terry Gainfort and a goal by Mark Tobin, the signs looked ominous from early on as Gusserane stayed with the Shels although playing into this strong wind. Gusserane controlled mid-field and kept Shels on the back foot while Shels struggled to set up proper scoring chances. The Shels stayed in front, but only just, as they led by the minimum at half time.
In the second half Gusserane did not waste any time in scoring 1-1 and although Shels improved their game, there was only going to be one winner. Gusserane defended well and gradually built on their lead leaving the full time score at 1-13 to 1-7.
However, despite the result of this final game it was a great tournament providing 3 competitive games in the middle of the summer which is vital at this time of year.
