Minor Footballers account for Glynn

An under strength Shels Minor Football team gave a brilliant display of heart, determination, will to win and no little skill, as they overcame a strong Glynn/Barntown outfit by 7 pts to 1.2 in a very windy Hollymount on Friday night last.

The real strength in depth of this squad was shown with this hard fought victory. Playing with the aid of the “Gale” in the first half, a lot of scoring chances came and went, but mainly thanks to the accurate free taking of Craig Mc Cabe the Shels led by 4pts at half time. Most people in attendance would have thought that this lead was not near enough considering the strength of the wind, but they were not allowing for the character of this team. Every ball was challenged for and every bit of possession was used wisely and they restricted there opponents to one pointed free and a very fortuitous goal while at the other end they managed to add on two points to run out winners in a very exciting game. Best for the Shels were Simon Murphy, Jack Murphy, Keen Lambe, Niall Tobin and Neill Rossiter. Well done to all.
