Junior C Championship, 2nd Round.
In the first half Duffry got the first points after 7 minutes and 10 minutes, but Glen Murphy and Brian O’Connor replied to leave it level after 15 minutes. The Shels younger players now had a big bearing on the game as AJ Lehane, Craig Mc Cabe and Liam Donnelly launched attack after attack from the half back line. Paddy Doyle and Adrian Veale got through some great work in mid-field but up front many chances were wasted as Shels put 5 wides to 2 wides for Duffry during this period. As half time approached, Duffry were awarded a penalty but they struck the crossbar. They then scored a point to leave the half-time score at Duffry 0-3, Shels 0-2.
In the second half it was all the Duffry for the first 10 minutes. They scored 0-5 without reply (0-3 frees) before Shels got on the score board with 0-2 from frees by Adrian Veale and Brian O’Connor. Duffry were awarded their second penalty now which they scored which put them ahead by 1- 8 to 0-4. Shane Bierney had a great save which kept the Shels in the game, but Shels had a lot of work to do now. They never gave up though with 0-2 (0-1 free) from Adrian and 0-1 from Fergal Hynes. They Shels finished the half strongly and Mick Kelly was unlucky not to get a goal. However, in the end Duffry deserved to win and finished 1-12 to 0-7.
