Camogie Junior’s return to winning ways

After a long spell on the side of defeat, the junior Camogie team returned to winning ways last week. Taking on Ferns in the junior league, St Ibars came out on top after an excellent display of determination and team work. The game was played at a fast tempo and had some very good passages of play.

The defence kept Ferns to a score line of four points over the hour. Mary Cullen gave an excellent display of goal keeping with some outstanding saves on the night. The full back line of Ciara Neville, Sinead Kelly and Siobhan Cloake kept their lines clear. The half back line of Lisa Quill, Roisin Cloake and Caroline Curran were outstanding. Mid field proved to versatile for the Ferns girls with Niamh Pottter and Aine Leacy in command. The Ibars’ forwards were unlucky not to have had more scores on the board at the end but recorded 2-1 on the night. Michelle Harding, Edel Campbell, Sara Leacy, Sinead Cowman, Therese Sheile, and Hannagh Duggan put together some excellent passes and played with great spirit. Goals came from Sinead Cowman and Niamh Potter, who netted in practically the last puck of the game.

An excellent taken point from Michelle Harding added to the score line giving the girls their first win in a couple of years! Roisin Tobin and Dervala Potter were introduced and are two young players who will undoubtedly one day line out for the senior team. With the team carrying some injuries and players undertaking college exams, hopefully all will be fit for the next round of games. All attention now turns to the championship which sees St Ibars and Ferns go head to head again (Ferns V St Ibars in Ferns on Saturday 22nd at 7pm).
