Minors good win over Oulart

Shels got their minor hurling campaign off to a great start when they accounted for Oulart/The Ballagh in Hollymount Friday evening last.

Oulart were first out of the blocks but Brian (Turf) Murphy replied with two excellent points and added a 65’. Oulart trying hard pointed twice more but Shels started to pile on the pressure, their work rate was tremendous and they steadily added their scores with Niall Tobin, Niall Murphy, James Gordon and Brian Murphy all on target to leave Shels at 0-11 to 0-3 a couple of minutes before half time. Oulart goaled on the cusp of half time to leave the score at the break 0-11 to 1-3.
On the resumption, both sides had some wides, but Shels started to come back into the game well. A second soft goal from Oulart, made for an exciting and nail biting finish to the game. Points from Brian Murphy (2), the young James Cash, & Stephen Corrigan meant we held on for a three point victory. Final score 0-15 to 2-6.

On a night when the whole team put in a great performance particularly in the first half, it’s hard to name players who shone. Shane Griffith was very strong in corner back as was Niall Murphy at wing back and who scored two sweet points, and the hard working and speedy Stephen Corrigan kept a plentiful supply of ball to the forwards. Brian Murphy was our target man with a personal tally of 8 points.
