Junior Hurlers lose to lady’s Island

The Shelmalier Junior Hurlers travelled to Our Lady’s Island on Sunday evening last to take on the local team in the third round of the junior hurling league.

Playing against the hill and a stiff breeze in the first half the Shels were slow to get into the game with Our Lady’s Island gaining an early lead. However as the half went on the Shels came more into the game with Seamie Harding and Denis Kelly in mid field and the Parker brothers Fergie and Vinny in defence the sides were level after 15 minutes 3 points each. Our Lady’s Island were well held in defence with Mick Kelly, Kevin O Leary, Craig Potter and James Murphy showing up well as the half came to a close. Goalkeeper, Ibar Murphy was also having a very strong game. With two point down on the resumption and now playing with the wind the Shels were guilty of some narrow wides from both frees and play, but they upped their game to draw level with ten minutes to go.  John Redmond, Ciaran Walsh, Chris Gordan came more into the game but their efforts were in vain as Our Lady’s Island held on to win by two points. Final score 0-14 to 0- 12
