3 out of 3 for Footballers

imShels senior footballers beat Bannow/Ballymitty this weekend and saw the return of Ibar Murphy to action after a year travelling the world.  Ibar is still in good shape.

Shels started brightly but had a lot of missed chances through frees, points and a goal opportunity. Colin Redmond finally got them on the score board with a pointed free. Tommy Barron and Colin scored from play but consistently poor passing by the Shels allowed Bannow to keep in touch with 3 points from play. Barry O’Connor then got injured and had to be carried off the field with a broken leg. The Shels became slightly unorganised now and lost their shape. However, Colin Redmond kept them in front with two pointed frees with Bannow replying with one pointed free. Half time score, Shels 0-5, Bannow 0-4.
In the second half the Shels upped the tempo considerably and set up some very good scoring chances. Tommy Barron, Brian Doyle, Derek Walsh and Colin Redmond scored points and Derek Walsh scored a goal. During this period Bannow only scored 0-1 but wasted a huge amount of scoring chances.
The final score was Shels 1-12, Bannow 0-5. But it was very obviously the first game of the league with both teams needing to do a lot of improvement. Best for Shels was Andre O’Brien, Ciaran O’Shaughnessy, Tommy Barron, Brian Doyle, Colin Redmond, Aidan Murphy and Colm Tynan.
