Oylgate replied with a point from play and missed two further scorable chances. Shels were on top but failed to capitalise on their dominance and only ended the half 0-6 to 0-1 ahead.
In the second half Cathal Gaule got a shoulder injury and Emmet O’Leary got a leg injury. With only one sub available, Shels played for 15 minutes with 14 men. Oylgate now took over with Trevor Moulton and MJ Reck in particular good form. The Shels had been leading by 0-8 to 0-3 but this lead was quickly whittled down and the sides were level with 10 minutes remaining. Rory O’Leary then togged out for the Shels and went in at full forward. Gradually the Shels got their shape back and they got a vital point by Mark Tobin to hold out by a one point win.
