Shels minor hurlers were unable to make it a historic four in a row when they met Glynn/Barntown in the Co. final, in Wexford Park on Sunday last.
Ronan Kavanagh got the Shels off the mark with a fine point. Shels were six points up after 20 mins, thanks in part to Feargal Hynes putting the in form Brian Doyle through for a superb goal, plus points from Brian Tobin, Benny Barron, Brian Doyle and Ronan Kavanagh . But some good play from Glynn saw them reduce this lead to four points going into the break. The teams were evenly matched on the resumption, but Glynn soon started to pull away. A second half goal by Ronan Kavanagh was controversially judged to be a square ball. Brian Doyle, Aidan Cash, Kevin O’ Leary, Benny Barron and Stephen Corrigan were putting in a huge work rate but Shels couldn’t close the gap, with 15 minutes passing scoreless before Craig McCabe pointed in injury time. The final score 2-12 to 1-12. We would like to wish Shane Griffith, who suffered concussion very early in the match, a speedy recovery.
