Shelmalier also had a second team on standby but it was friday lunchtime before they got the nod and at that stage they were unable to travel on Saturday morning.
The Team were drawn in Group 2 with Corofin Galway, Bryansford Down, Rockban Cork and Aodh Ruadh Tyrone.
Shelmalier Got the day off to a great start with Victory over a tough Corofin side, the Second game saw them take on A fancied Aodh Ruadh team with some international basketball payers among the ranks,Bryansford of Down was the next game up and they came to within 2 points of the Shels team, but Shels to their credit found another gear and closed out the game. The Final Group match was against Rock Ban of Cork and victory ensured qualification for the quarter final Stages of the cup with the second team in the group heading off to the Sheild competition.
In the quarter finals Shels faced Clann Eireann from Armagh and were unlucky not to come away with a win. Shels had several one on one’s with the Keeper which they failed to put away.
It turned out to be an all Monaghan affair in the Final with Emyvale Getting one over on Donaghmoyne to claim the National Senior sevens title.
